The American mezzo-soprano Tichina Vaughn is a regular guest at the renowned opera houses in Europe and overseas.
Since the summer of 2003 the artist is regularly invited at the Arena di verona Open Air Festival. Here, she sings both AZUCENA and AMNERIS. This last role, she also portrayed at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari under the musical direction of Lorin Maazel, in Trieste, at the Hong Kong National Opera, in Michigan, Seattle, Tulsa and at the Arturo Toscanini Foundation Summer Festival in Busetto.
She was ULRICA in Un Ballo in maschera at the Teatro della Muse in Ancona, at the Teatro Filarmonico Verona, at the Hambourg State Opera and 2005 at the Teatro Verdi, Trieste . She also sang EBOLI in Seattle and Hanover and Ms QUICKLEY at the Semperoper Dresden.
Thanks to her rare versatility, Tichina Vaughn is also very much in demand for the German repertoire. She could be heard as HERODIAS at the Canary Islands Music Festival Las Palmas, as ERDA in Rheingold and Siegfried at the Finnish National Opera, in Kassel and Augsburg. She sang WALTRAUTE in Mannheim, and the WITWE BEGBICK in Der Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny in Stuttgart und Bremen.
While still a student at the North Carolina School of Arts, she was named a winner of the Metropolitan Opera Studio National Council Auditions. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree, she was immediately invited to become a member of the Metropolitan Opera Studios. She made her debut on stage at the MET in Porgy and Bess and sang roles in La Traviata and Rigoletto.
The artist was already awarded with numerous prizes such as the Metropolitan Opera Award and the Richard Tucker Study Grand Award.
Since 1998 Tichina Vaughn has been a member of the Stuttgart State Opera, where she has captivated audiences and critics alike with parts like AZUCENA in Il Trovatore, EBOLI in Don Carlo, as well as VENUS in Tannhäuser, HERODIAS in Salome and CORNELIA in Händel's Giulio Cesare. Besides in December 2005, she made her debut here as KLYTHEMNESTRA.

In the Stuttgart Ring Cycle, that was filmed for the Euro Arts distributed DVD, she performed FRICKA in Walküre and WALTRAUTE in Götterdämmerung.

masses, lieder from Beethoven, Bernstein, Brahms, Mahler, Mozart, Verdi Tichina Vaughn can regularly be seen on all the important stages with such renowned conductors as Mstislav Rostropovich, Nicola Luisotti, Bobby McFerrin, …just to name a few.
Highlights of future seasons include a.o. her debut as ULRICA at the San Francisco Opera and once again AMNERIS at the Arena di Verona.
